COVID-19 Isn't Mutating, but Experts Say It's Still Dangerous According to the World Health Organization's <br />Maria Van Kerkhove, the virus is not becoming <br />more severe or more transmittable. But coronavirus transmissions can easily <br />increase if people and local governments <br />do not continue to take precautions. With nationwide protests still going, <br />U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams says <br />new outbreaks of the virus could be on the rise. Redfield adds that tear gas forces people to cough, <br />which can help the virus to spread. According to Johns Hopkins University Center, there are <br />now nearly 1.9 million cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. 18 states, including hard-hit New York <br />and New Jersey, have seen a decrease <br />in new cases in recent weeks. Other states, including Texas and <br />Florida, are still reporting increases <br />in their weekly averages. CNN Health adds that both <br />states are still moving ahead with <br />re-opening businesses despite the rise. According to National Institutes <br />of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins, <br />COVID-19 vaccine trials will start in July.
