6월 민주 항쟁: 33주년 기념행사 열린다

Another day for people to remember here in South Korea.
33-years ago today June 10th, 1987 is when an anti-dictatorship, pro-democracy movement broke out in Seoul.
It became known as the June Democracy Movement and it ultimately led to the toppling of Chun Doo-hwan's then-authoritarian regime.
It also helped usher in a direct voting system.
And that eventually led to the revision of Korea's Constitution, allowing citizens to elect their own leader,... resulting in the establishment of the Sixth Republic, South Korea's current day government.
A memorial service will be held in the coming hours in honor of those who sacrificed it all for democracy.
We here at Arirang TV will be bringing you that memorial service at around 10AM, Korea time, with simultaneous English translation.
