Kobe Bryant to Be Honored <br />With Emmy Governors Award The basketball legend will be <br />recognized posthumously after being <br />selected by the award committee. Bryant has been chosen thanks to <br />"his legacy of philanthropy, community <br />building and inspiration that extended <br />beyond the basketball court." The Emmy Governors Award gets presented to an <br />individual, company or organization that has made a <br />substantial contribution to the greater L.A. area. Outstanding, visionary and innovative <br />achievements to either arts, sciences or television <br />management are also recognized. Bryant was nominated by<br /> Spectrum SportsNet for his <br />contributions to the NBA franchise. The Academy also recognizes how the former <br />Lakers star "championed a number of <br />worthy causes and critical issues..." "... [by] becoming an ambassador for women's <br />basketball, a mentor and youth advocate, and rais[ing]<br />awareness of homelessness in Los Angeles." The award will be presented during the <br />72nd L.A. Area Emmy Awards during a live <br />stream on July 18 on Emmys.com.
