Passengers evacuated after ferry capsizes in Indonesia

Terrified passengers fled a ferry after it capsized while docking in Bali, Indonesia, on Friday night (June 12).<br /><br />The Dharma Rucitra III Ferry was approaching the Padangbai Harbor on the popular tourist island when it tilted 45 degrees to the right.<br /><br />Water rushed into the ship from a suspected leak in the hull as the captain battled to balance the weight. Officials said that 48 passengers and the 17 crew were evacuated and there were no injuries.<br /><br />Onboard the vessel, which had been travelling from Lombok island, were 21 trucks, three cars, and nine motorbikes. <br /><br />Ni Luh Putu Eka Suyasmin, Head of the Padangbai Class IV Portship and Authority Office (KSOP) said: ''We evacuated passengers and crew to the dock in safe condition. The evacuation process was completed at 22:18.'' <br /><br />The harbour chief said the Padang Bai KSOP would examine the cause of the accident and make sure the incident did not interfere with shipping activities at the Padangbai Port.<br /><br />"When the incident was good sea water and sunny weather. To ascertain the cause, we will conduct an investigation," he added.
