Scientists around the world are working at breakneck speed to contain, cure, and understand the novel coronavirus.<br />The upper respiratory virus COVID-19 has already infected more than 7.8 million people worldwide and is sometimes deadly.<br />According to Gizmodo, the question of how the coronavirus began to infect humans still remains unanswered.<br />The most likely scenario is that it was transmitted to humans via animals, in a process known as species jumping.<br />The WHO says bats are to blame, but some studies suggest that the virus went from bats to humans via an intermediate source, such as pangolins.<br />Unfortunately, the adorable little creatures are among the most heavily trafficked species on the planet.
