A man was detained on Friday at the Strandfontein police station for allegedly raping a 13 year old girl child.<br /><br />The man appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court and the matter was postponed for a formal bail application on Monday 29 June.<br /><br />The identity of the man is known but cannot be published until he pleads. The man is known as a former MK (Umkhonto we Sizwe) combatant. MK was the military arm of the African National Congress, South Africa's ruling party. MK was disbanded in 1994 with the advent of democracy.<br /><br />The man is currently employed as a sub council manager in the City of Cape Town. He is also known to be involved with a community based organisation known as Unchain the Plain.
