Carcass of 36-ft whale washes up on West Bengal beach

The carcass of a critically endangered whale washed ashore on the coast of West Bengal's East Midnapore district on Monday (June 29). <br /><br />Footage shows the huge 36-feet-long whale washed up on the shore of Mandarmani Beach and beach-goers standing witness to the incident. <br /><br />Although the cause of its death is not yet known, local sources revealed that the dead whale has "injury marks" over its tail and body.<br /><br />Experts are now examining the carcass of the mammal to ascertain the reason for its death.<br /><br />In India, whales are endangered species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
