미국 "홍콩 특별대우 박탈…추가 조치도 검토"

The U.S. Commerce Department says it's suspending "preferential treatment to Hong Kong over China, including the availability of export license exceptions."
It adds further actions to eliminate Hong Kong's status are being evaluated.
Kim Sung-min reports. Beijing's passing of the national security legislation has led the U.S. to tighten restrictions on Hong Kong.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday, U.S. time, released a statement saying that the U.S. will ban all exports to Hong Kong related to military equipment.
That includes high-tech commodities that are dual-use..., meaning that they could possibly be used for military purposes.
In a separate statement from the Commerce Department, Secretary Wilbur Ross announced that the U.S. will suspend preferential treatment for Hong Kong, such as the availability of export license exceptions.
These restrictions will make the export of some high-tech products to Hong Kong subject to the same regulations as exports to China, preventing American firms from shipping items deemed to be vital for national security.
However, these new restrictions do not affect financial services... greatly limiting their impact.
Hong Kong's chief executive, Carrie Lam responded that she wasn't worried by the measures.
"Sanctions will not scare us as we are mentally prepared , and the country will take responsive action if necessary. On foreign diplomacy, any actions taken by the central government, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's government will fully comply."
However, both U.S. officials added that further actions are being evaluated by their departments.
This could leave Hong Kong vulnerable to tariffs, visa restrictions and other measures.
Kim Sung-min, Arirang News.
