The American Academy of Pediatrics wants children back in the classroom this fall, despite the ongoing risks associated with COVID-19.<br />The AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. American Academy of Pediatrics<br />According to HuffPost, updated guidance from the AAP asserts that the importance of students being physically present in class is well-documented.<br />Furthermore, the AAP says that evidence already has emerged of “negative impacts” on children due to school closures in the spring.<br />For example, being away from school for a long period of time can lead to lowered grades and social isolation.<br />It's also difficult for educators to spot students who may be dealing with domestic abuse, substance abuse, or serious mental health concerns.<br />Finally, school closures also have a direct negative impact on children’s nutrition and their physical activity levels.
