Protesters face off with NYPD as city votes to cut $1 billion from police budget

Tensions were high outside city hall in New York City on Wednesday night (June 30) as the city prepared to vote on the 2021 budget. <br /><br />Hundreds of people gathered outside city hall for a seventh day blocking access to the "City Hall Autonomous Zone" with barricades. <br /><br />Shortly after midnight, lawmakers agreed to cut $1 billion from the NYPD budget and reallocate to education and social services.<br /><br />The protests continued through the night and the zone is still currently occupied.
