Let's face it, burns are terrible. They hurt, they're ugly, they can get infected, and they can create a lifelong, ugly scar.
According to Allure, how a burn ultimately resolves has a lot to do with how it's handled the minute it happens.
For example, don't put butter on it. Don't put cold water or ice on it, either. Instead, flush it with lukewarm water for about twenty minutes.
However, the burn is a chemical burn, don't put water on it if the chemical is known to react with water.
If you're unsure, call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 for guidance.
Remove any jewelry near the burn, but if any clothing is stuck to it, leave it there. Seek medical attention immediately.
If your burn blisters, that's a good sign. Keep the blisters clean and covered until any oozing subsides.
If you do end up with a scar, many of them can be helped by cosmetic laser treatments.
