Two noteworthy announcements in the fight against HIV were made this week.<br />A possible case of long-term remission has been documented in a Brazillian man diagnosed with HIV 8 years ago.<br />He may be the first person to experience long-term HIV remission after being treated with only an antiviral drug regimen.<br />The second announcement is regarding a new investigational drug that has been found to be effective at HIV prevention.<br />The investigational drug cabotegravir injected every eight weeks was more effective at preventing HIV than daily oral pills.<br />The drug has not yet been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment or prevention of HIV.
