Military deployed in suburb after COVID-19 cases surge in southern India

Commandos of the Special Armed Force (SAF) have been deployed as the number of coronavirus cases surged in the south Indian state of Kerala.<br /><br />Footage from the Poonthura suburb of Thiruvananthapuram on July 8, shows the commandos walking through the locality, to ensure people stay at home and maintain social distancing.<br /><br />According to local reports, the area has seen a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in a short span of time.<br /><br />Health officials said that they suspect super spreading, as one person has infected more than six people.<br /><br />The authorities have barred people from inter-state transit between Thiruvananthapuram and Tamil Nadu.<br /><br />Kerala has reported 6,196 COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths related to the disease, so far.
