A monarch caterpillar's transformation into a chrysalis was captured through timelapse footage.<br /><br />Footage shows the insect shed its outer layer over the course of a few hours transforming it into a chrysalis, also known as a pupa.<br /><br />The caterpillar will stay in chrysalis for five to 21 days and will develop into a fully-fledged monarch butterfly.<br /><br />The filmer, Dan Goulet, told Newsflare: "I have been raising monarch butterfly caterpillars that I found on my milkweed plant. <br /><br />"I managed to capture this timelapse video of the transformation from caterpillar to chrysalis after hours of intense watching and waiting."<br /><br />The footage was filmed in Winnipeg, Canada on July 14.
