U.S. records 77,000 cases of COVID-19 in one day, highest yet

미 신규 코로나 환자 7만 7천여명 또 최다...브라질ㆍ인도 확진자 급증<br /><br />The number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has exceeded 13-point-8 million.<br />The U.S. has the highest number of cases... and continues to post new records in terms of daily new infections.<br />The virus is spreading rapidly in Brazil as well as in India,... which now have the world's second and third highest number of confirmed cases.<br />Our Eum Ji-young reports.<br />The total number of coronavirus cases worldwide has topped 13-point-8 million.<br />And as of Friday, according to Johns Hopkins University, the outbreak has killed at least 589-thousand people.<br />The U.S. has seen by far the highest number of cases in total.<br />And on Thursday, it saw an all-time high of more than 77-thousand new infections, bringing the total to more than three-point-five million.<br />There were almost a thousand more deaths on Thursday, raising the death toll to around 138-thousand.<br />The hardest-hit areas, including Texas, Arizona and Florida, are facing an alarming rise in hospitalizations and are running out of hospital beds.<br />Brazil's coronavirus cases and deaths are rising fast, too.<br />In total, the country has seen more than 2 million cases and over 76-thousand deaths,... the world's second highest behind the United States.<br />Government figures show nearly 40-thousand new infections every day.<br />As the virus spreads not only in Brazil's major cities, but also rural areas, residents are concerned about the poorly coordinated response.<br />"I'm really, really scared. Every day (coronavirus cases) increase. The trend isn't decreasing, it's increasing. And with all these crowds - I'm running out of here."<br />The pandemic is also spreading rapidly in India.<br />The number of COVID-19 cases in India has surpassed one million, fueled by a surge in the countryside where healthcare infrastructure is much weaker.<br />India saw a record of more than 34-thousand new infections on Friday with the death toll surpassing 25-thousand.<br />The country's testing rate in relation to its population is one of the lowest in the world.<br />Eum Ji-young Arirang News.<br />
