Several teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have rescued people stranded in the rising water levels in northeastern India’s Assam after heavy rainfall lashed the entire state.<br /><br />The incident took place at Hawra Ghat of Goalpara district on July 20.<br /><br />The footage shows several rescue officials on a boat, wearing life jackets and rescuing people swamped in the waterlogged area.<br /><br />Reports suggest at least 56 people, including 12 women and 13 children, have been rescued.<br /><br />The rescued people have been safely moved to higher areas.<br /><br />Dhemaji in Upper Assam and Barpeta in Lower Assam are the worst-hit because the water ranges in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries rose due to incessant rainfall for one week. <br /><br />Several embankments have been breached, and roads and bridges have been broken on account of rising floodwaters, according to local reports.<br /><br />Besides, teams are also assisting district administration in the distribution of masks, screening inundated areas while maintaining proper social distancing due to the COVID-19 emergency.
