In a lucky occurrence, a labourer working in a minefield found a diamond worth over INR 5,000,000 ($67,000 USD) in central India’s Madhya Pradesh.<br /><br />The 10.69-carat diamond was discovered on July 21 in Panna’s Sarkoha village.<br /><br />According to reports, a total of nine workers were digging the mine together, when one of them found the jewel.<br /><br />Visuals show the lustrous gem being examined by the experts.<br /><br />The fortunate labourer later deposited the diamond to the Diamond Officer in the district.<br /><br />District Diamond Officer stated that a gem this large has not been discovered for quite a long period of time and will be duly put up for auction.<br /><br />Whatever amount is received from the said auction, will be handed over to the labourer after deducting tax and loyalty.<br /><br />Panna’s name literally translates to emerald and has a rich history of expensive gems being found, with the most valuable one measuring 44.55 carats, in 1961.
