Shocking new statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say up to 188,000 Indianans have had the novel coronavirus COVID-19 as of late April.
According to UPI, that's nearly 10 times higher than the reported number of confirmed cases in the state as of April 29, which was 17,800.
The CDC says the findings are the latest to suggest that actual infections of the new coronavirus exceed reported case totals.
However, as many as 44% of those infected had no obvious symptoms of the virus.
That might explain why many cases weren't reported to state health officials.
Even so, CDC researchers say the majority of Indiana's population remains 'susceptible' to the virus.
