Three people die in flooded Busan underpass

진입 15분만에 "살려달라" 아비규환…지하차도 침수 당시 증언<br /><br />Heavy rain here in Korea overnight caused flash flooding in some parts of the nation... causing casualties and property damage.<br />Three people were found dead in submerged vehicles in the second-largest city, Busan, after being trapped inside a flooded underpass.<br />Jang Tae-hyun has the details.<br />Torrential downpours of 80 millimeters an hour.<br />Flash floods hit the city of Busan on Thursday night.<br />"The water went up above the knees. You can see the stain below. We can't use the medicine that was up here."<br />"Three refrigerators fell down. It's such a lot of damage. I'm about to cry."<br />The heavy rain killed three people in Busan after they were trapped in a flooded underpass.<br />It happened in around 10 minutes.<br />A person who was rescued from the underpass said everything happened so quickly that they couldn't evacuate.<br />According to that person, around seven cars entered the underpass at 10:30 PM.<br />At that time, the water covered about two-thirds of the car wheels.<br />When halfway inside the underpass, cars stopped moving forward.<br />It seemed like there was a car accident, but in three to four minutes... water started drowning the cars.<br />It covered the car windows and eventually got in the cars.<br />Some of the cars began floating up.<br />People inside tried to break the windows to get out of the cars.<br />The witness said that when three men broke the window and got out, the water was so high that they couldn't touch the ground.<br />When fire fighters came, the water was two-and-a-half meters high.<br />People were screaming for help and some were standing on their cars to survive.<br />Even those standing on their cars had water up to their waist.<br />Two of the people rescued died during their treatment, and after the underpass was drained, another body was found.<br />As well as the deaths in Busan, the heavy rain caused one death in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do Province, and another in the city of Ulsan.<br />The downpours killed five in total, and injured four others.<br />217 people needed temporary accommodation.<br />Jang Tae-hyun, Arirang News.<br />
