대전 충청•전북 물폭탄,.. 역대 늦장마 가능성<br /><br />Usually at this time of the year, South Korea would be dealing with a heat wave and tropical nights.<br />But this year, the monsoon is still over the country, more than a month after it first arrived.<br />Last night, torrential rain slammed southern and central areas, and even more rain is in store for today.<br />Lee Kyung-eun reports.<br />Monsoon rain has slammed the central and southern parts of South Korea.<br />The central city of Daejeon, is among the hardest hit …with some areas receiving more than 2-hundred-60 millimeters of rainfall.<br />In an apartment complex, cars are flooded, and people are trapped inside the building waiting for the fire services to rescue them.<br />With the water level reaching people's waists, even boats have been used for the rescue.<br />Elsewhere, streams are overflowing.<br />And high-speed rail services have been delayed due to flooded tracks.<br />The city had a brief respite around dawn, but has received another round of torrential rain through the morning.<br />It's a similar situation in Chungcheong-do and Jeollabuk-do provinces, where heavy rain alerts have been issued.<br />These places could get up to 2-hundred millimeters of rain on Thursday.<br />Elsewhere in the country, 80 millimeters is expected for northern Gyeonggi-do Province,...while 5 to 40 millimeters of rain is in store for other regions, including Seoul.<br />This monsoon rail will come to an end on Friday for southern regions.<br />But the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts,...on-and-off heavy showers will continue in central regions until next week.<br />"Heavy rain is forecast for central regions over the weekend, and the monsoon is expected to continue into next week.<br />If the forecast is correct, it would be one of the longest monsoon seasons ever recorded in South Korea.<br />Previously, the latest the monsoon has ended was August 10th in 1987, followed by August 4th in 2013, and August 2nd in 1991.<br />Lee Kyung-eun, Arirang News.<br /><br />
