6 dead, 8 missing due to torrential downpours in S. Korea

수도권•중부 '물폭탄'에 이틀간 6명 사망•8명 실종<br /><br />Our top story this morning.<br />Torrential rain lashed South Korea over the weekend causing six deaths and leaving eight missing.<br />More than 14-hundred people had to flee to emergency shelters.<br />It also damaged infrastructure and hundreds of properties.<br />Eum Ji-young has more.<br />The torrential rain devastated many parts of South Korea over the weekend, especially in the capital and its surrounding regions.<br />According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters as of 7:30 PM on Sunday, six deaths were confirmed while eight others are unaccounted for.<br />The casualties were mostly caused by flooding and landslides.<br />Among the dead, one person in Gyeonggi-do Province and 4 others in Chungcheongbuk-do Province died on Sunday due to a landslide.<br />The previous day, a man in his 80s was killed as he has been swept away by a swift current.<br />Six people were injured in Gangwon-do Province due to a landslide.<br />Also, it flooded more than 90 houses leaving at least 360 people homeless and roughly 14-hundred people have temporarily evacuated and are taking emergency shelter.<br />Parts of Gangwon-do Province and Gyeonggi-do Province saw up to 80 millimeters of precipitation an hour over the weekend.<br />At least 107 landslides occurred in Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongbuk-do Provinces, damaging private and public facilities.<br />Meanwhile, several roads have been closed in Seoul as the Hangang River's level has risen sharply.<br />The low-lying Jamsu Bridge in Seoul has been completely closed off to traffic since 5:30 PM on Sunday.<br />The government is focusing on the search for the missing,... and other recovery efforts are also ongoing.<br />Eum Ji-young Arirang News.<br />
