The Qurban committee at Masjid Al-Munawwarah mosque in Padang, Indonesia has replaced the plastic wrapping for their Eid food handout with a more sustainable bamboo alternative. <br /><br />Footage from Sunday (August 2) shows meat packaged in bamboo baskets being delivered to the homes of local residents.<br /><br />Deputy Chairperson of Masjid Al-Munawarah, Amoura Lubis, said: "The replacement of plastic containers is due to the dangers of plastic for human health, the environment and because plastic cannot be destroyed for hundreds of years."<br /><br />Lubis added: "Every Eid al-Adha, there is lots of plastic garbage because in Indonesia there is a habit of using plastic. We are trying to change the habit".<br /><br />The Qurban committee prepared 800 bamboo baskets, woven by craftsmen in Padang City, for the meat of 20 cows and three goats.
