I'm Kim Jae-hee.
The European Commission has launched an investigation into Google's plan to buy Fitbit, a company marketing wearable fitness devices.
The investigation comes amid concerns Google would further expand its market position in the online advertising business, by using Fitbit data to personalize its advertisements.
The EU Commission said the investigation aims to ensure the acquisition does not "distort competition".
The probe is to be completed by December 9th, by which time a decision will be made by the Commission on whether to clear or block the deal.
Google says it will fully cooperate with the investigation process.
The probe comes despite Google offering last month to not use Fitbit's health data for advertisement purposes.
The deal, valued at 2-point-1 billion U.S. dollars, was agreed on last November.
Fitbit has about 30 million active users, and has sold about 100 million gadgets so far.
Diverse groups advocating for privacy and consumer rights have been against the deal, citing antitrust and privacy concerns.
