This is the dramatic moment two puppies were rescued after being trapped for six hours inside a motorcycle seat.

The motorcycle was impounded by the police in Bali, Indonesia after officers stormed an illegal bike race at 3am and the owner fled.

Klungkung District Police Station officers parked the vehicle outside their building while processing the report in the early hours of the morning.

However, later that day at around 9am one of the cops on duty heard soft dog cries from the bike's trunk.

They quickly opened it up and freed the sweltering pooches, which had been forgotten about by the rider when they dumped the bike and fled the illegal race.

Adjunct Police Commissioner Putu Gede Ardana, Public Relations Officer of the Klungkung Regency Police said: "Our members were suspicious after hearing the sound of a puppy in pain. After searching, it turned out there was a puppy in the motorbike seat."

The police officers forced open the motorcycle seat as it was locked. However, small gaps inside the compartment allowed them to breathe.

Two crying puppies were found inside who were most likely trapped inside for at least six hours while the bike was impounded.

Police believe they could also have been locked inside during the race.

The dogs already looked limp when they were rescued because of the lack of oxygen inside.

The police are now looking for the bike's owner who abandoned the vehicle to avoid being caught while the two puppies are staying at the station under the officer's care.

The police chief added: ''The owner was not only taking part in an illegal race, but he was also subjecting the puppies to cruelty.''
