S. Korea to invest US$ 15.6 bil. to foster 'green smart schools': Moon

문 대통령 "2025년까지 오래된 학교 건물 2천800동 최첨단으로 바꾼다"<br /><br />President Moon Jae-in has vowed to turn some 28-hundred old school buildings into so-called "smart schools" by 2025 as part of the government's New Deal initiative.<br />The remarks came during his visit to Changdeok Girls' Middle School in Seoul, a school that's taking the lead in the transition.<br />The government plans to invest 18.5 trillion won (US$ 15.6 billion) by 2025. We will build the foundation for a regional and national transformation so that "green smart schools" can fundamentally change the methods and social role of education."<br />The plan calls for the adoption of digital and green features, such as the use of eco-friendly energy sources and construction materials, into the education system.<br />All this while making sure there's no digital educational divide by region.<br />President Moon also expressed concerns over the latest spike in coronavirus cases in the greater Seoul area,... saying that a complete reopening of schools will have to be put on hold for the time being.<br />He called for thorough efforts at schools to prepare for the next semester,... stressing that the nation is at a critical juncture which will decide the fate of its quarantine efforts.<br />Currently, all schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province are required to operate at one-third capacity.<br />
