If you put twenty Americans in a room, chances are at least one of them is a heavy drinker.<br />That's according to figures released Tuesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<br />The CDC defines 'heavy drinking' as consuming more than 14 alcoholic drinks per week for men or more than seven drinks per week for women.<br />UPI reports just over 5% of American adults aged 18 and over admitted to engaging in 'heavy drinking.'<br />However, the CDC data shows 6.4% of white adults drink heavily, as opposed to black adults at 2.9.%, and Hispanic adults at 2.6%.<br />There was no discernible gender difference. Men and women were equally likely to be heavy drinkers.<br />In July, the CDC reported that more than 93,000 Americans die from alcohol-related causes annually.
