Striking doctors to join COVID-19-related medical services

전공의, 코로나 진료 참여키로…"진정성 있는 논의 시작"<br /><br />After rounds of massive doctors walk-out,... finally some progress between the government and the doctors association on their talks of reforming health sector.<br />Trainee doctors association in South Korea has agreed to go back to work on a limited basis to respond to the resurgence of COVID-19.<br />That decision came on late Sunday after its leaders met with the country's Prime Minister.<br />Lee Seung-jae reports.<br />Last Friday,... trainee doctors across South Korea went on a strike for an indefinite period,... in opposition to the government's medical reform measures.<br />However,... after a meeting between its leaders and Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on Sunday,... the Korean Intern and Resident Association agreed to "actively take part in medical services for responding to COVID-19 in consideration of the situation."<br />This, however, does not mean the strike is over.<br />Instead, the association's members will return to work on a limited basis,... while trying to resolve pending issues through negotiations with the government.<br />While the health ministry has offered to shelve its reform plans until after the COVID-19 situation stabilizes,... the association shot back,.. saying the ministry cannot be trusted,... accusing it of a history of deception and about-faces.<br />With doctors also set to stage a walk-out this week,... the Korean Medical Association,... which represents 130-thousand doctors,... said it reached out to the Prime Minister's Office,... the ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition United Future Party with a proposal for emergency talks.<br />They will meet on Monday at 2PM, Korea time.<br />The KMA warned that if talks break down,... the association will arrange a third general strike.<br />Lee Seung-jae, Arirang News.<br />
