"미 FDA, 코로나19 혈장치료 긴급승인"<br /><br />With COVID-19 cases in the U.S. topping the five million mark, the Trump administration has announced the emergency use authorization of a new type of treatment.<br />However, some experts say it's still unclear whether it'll be effective.<br />Choi Won-jong with the details.<br />The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved emergency authorization of convalescent plasma as a potential treatment for COVID-19.<br />President Trump announced on Sunday that this major green light from the government could save countless lives in the future.<br />"The FDA has issued an emergency use authorization, and that's such a powerful term emergency use authorization for a treatment known as convalescent plasma."<br />The plasma treatment involves using antibodies from the blood of COVID-19 survivors.<br />Until now, more than 70-thousand Americans have already received the treatment.<br />However, it is still not clear what effect the decision will have for convalescent plasma treatment... because of inconclusive evidence on its effectiveness and the appropriate dosage.<br />In addition, the FDA's commissioner, Stephen Hahn said in the briefing on Sunday that the treatment still needs to undergo randomized clinical trials to decide its safety and effectiveness.<br />As of Monday, the U.S. has had a total of more than 5 million COVID-19 cases and 170-thousand deaths.<br />Choi Won-jong, Arirang News.<br />
