Frontline medical workers suffer from heat, fatigue amid prolonged COVID-19 pandemic

탈진, 피로, 코로나 감염까지...최전선 의료진도 쓰러진다<br /><br />Healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus on the frontline are battling triple disasters - fatigue from the prolonged pandemic, risk of infection and extreme heat.<br />Yoon Jungmin has more on the frontline medical workers braving the hot, humid summer weather in heavy protective suits.<br />Frontline medical workers are not just fighting COVID-19, but against the heat and fatigue too.<br />Medical staff are required to wear heavy protective gear and work in a hermetically-sealed environment which can cause them to faint due to the hot summer weather.<br />Although some trainee doctors have agreed to resume practice despite the recent strikes,...medical facilities are suffering from a lack of manpower amid the recent resurgence of new coronavirus infections in South Korea.<br />Doctors and nurses fighting against COVID-19 are especially at risk as they could be exposed to the virus while treating patients.<br />At Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do Province,... some 10 medical workers and members of their families were confirmed to have the virus so far.<br />"If medical staff get infected, patients cannot go to these medical institutions. So it's very dangerous and we must prevent infections at those facilities."<br />The KCDC said, that as of last Friday, one-hundred-37 medical workers have tested positive for COVID-19.<br />Fourteen of them were confirmed either while working at COVID-19 test centers or while treating coronavirus patients.<br />The other one-hundred-23 workers were found to have been infected due to cluster infections at hospitals or other medical facilities.<br />Yoon Jung-min, Arirang News.<br />
