Safety precautions to take at home during Typhoon Bavi

주택, 상가, 아파트도 태풍 바비에 안전하려면... 창틀에 우유갑 이용<br /><br />Typhoon Bavi is packing strong winds that could damage outdoor structures.<br />So officials are warning the public to stay indoors if they can.<br />But even in the comfort of your own home, there are several precautions that should be taken until the storm blows over.<br />Kim Yeon-seung reports.<br />Typhoon Bavi struck South Korea's southern island of Jeju on Tuesday, lashing the island with winds of up to 45 meters a second.<br />The storm is rapidly sweeping its way toward the capital expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall to Seoul by Thursday.<br />As a result, there are some extra precautions you can take to stay safe.<br />That means staying indoors, but even that isn't completely risk-free.<br />When the strong winds hit, windows can shatter as seen during last year's typhoon, Lingling.<br />"Even though I taped the window two or three times, when the fierce wind kicked in everything just smashed."<br />In order to prevent this happening, put empty milk cartons in the gap between the window and the frame instead of taping newspaper to your windows.<br />Experts say the newspaper route is relatively ineffective when it comes to powerful winds.<br />If there's a gap between the window and the frame, the wind will continue to shake the glass, and then eventually it'll shatter.<br />An empty milk carton will secure the window and cushion the intense energy of the wind.<br />Also, there are risks of gas leaks and electric shocks.
