타들어 가는 '지구의 허파' 아마존…지난달 화재 2만9천여건<br /><br />Fires continue to rip through the Amazon rainforest.<br />Reuters, citing a senior scientist at Brazil's National Space Research Institute on Wednesday, reported that once data are finalized, it would show that Amazon fires in August were the worst in 10 years.<br />It said the number of fires in August will likely show an increase by 1 to 2 percent compared to the same month last year, when around 31-thousand fires were reported.<br />That would mean the worst spate of fires in the Amazon region for the month of August since 2010.<br />And that does it for today's edition of 'The World Now'.
