Footage shows severe flooding in the town of Clifden in County Galway, Ireland, today (September 2).<br /><br />Heavy rain overnight caused the water levels on the Owenglin River to surge, bursting its banks and overflowing onto nearby roads and homes.<br /><br />Terrified residents watched the raging torrents and said it was the ''worst flooding the town has ever seen''.<br />Several roads were closed as emergency services rushed to secure the area and help evacuate stranded locals.<br /><br />Met Eireann, the national meteorological service in Ireland, said most of the country would be hit with heavy rain and a there is a risk of localised flooding.
