Incredible footage shows a Japanese flying drone car's first public test flight.<br /> <br />The SD-03 model built by the company SkyDrive was flown in the Toyota Test Field in Toyota, Japan on August 25.<br /> <br />The single-seat aircraft hovered more than six feet above the ground and circled the test area for four minutes. <br /> <br />CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa said there are ''more than 100'' flying car projects in the world but onlyt a ''handful'' have succeeded in carrying a person. He hopes to have the aircraft on the market by 2023.<br /> <br />The team said the SD-03 is currently the world’s smallest flying car made for one person. It measures around 13ft in length and width and around 6.5ft in height.<br /> <br />It has two white lights at its front, and a red light underneath to help people know where it is going.<br /> <br />During the test flight, a pilot flew while technicians monitored the vehicle in case it needed an emergency backup.<br /> <br />The company spent two years tweaking the flying car before the successful public-manned test flight.<br /> <br />Interested investors have put forward more than 37 million USD, with hopes that it could revolutionize travel.<br /> <br />SkyDrive said their next goal is to have the flying car approved for use outside the custom-built air field. They hope to turn the prototype into a commercial model by 2023.
