Distancing measures in S. Korea shows effect, will decide whether to extend it by this week

정부 "거리두기 효과 '가시화'…재연장 여부 이번 주말쯤 결정"<br /><br />Our starting point tonight - All hands on deck to push that virus number down to below 100 a day.<br />South Korea reported 136 new Covid-19 cases today managing to slowly begin flattening the epidemic curve, but health officials here remain on alert over sporadic cluster infections.<br />In another development, health authorities say they plan to mass produce antibody treatment for Covid-19 by the end of this month.<br />Jang Tae-hyun leads our coverage tonight.<br />The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea is fluctuating, but is slowly going down.<br />"Thanks to citizens' enthusiastic participation, the social distancing measures are showing their effect. For six days in a row, the number of new COVID-19 cases has been between 100 and 200."<br />South Korea reported 136 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.<br />Out of the 120 local cases, 98 were from the capital region.<br />The government will decide on whether to lower the social distancing measures in the greater Seoul area by this weekend.<br />Even though the number of cases is falling, there is still a high risk of cluster infections.<br />52 cluster infections have been reported over the last two weeks, which is five times the number from early August.<br />Aside from places of worship, cluster infections are popping up in indoor sports facilities, as well as from in meetings and at workplaces.<br />The government is considering keeping the normally-waived expressway toll charges during Chuseok Korean Thanksgiving, to encourage people to stay at home.<br />In the meantime, the country plans to mass produce COVID-19 antibody treatments.<br />"The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is evaluating its second and third clinical trials. We are planning on commercial mass production of a vaccine within the month."<br />Five additional deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 341.<br />The country's total number of cases stands at 21-thousand 432.<br />Jang Tae-hyun, Arirang News.<br />
