S. Korea elected to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage committee

한국, 유네스코 무형유산위원국 세번째 당선<br /><br />South Korea has been elected to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee for the third time.<br />According to the Foreign Ministry, the country was in a tight race with India in the Asia-Pacific group to become part of the 24-member committee.<br />Seoul will now be involved in deciding which intangible cultural heritages are added to the Heritage List as well as defining the use of funds.<br />South Korea currently has twenty intangible cultural heritages listed by UNESCO.<br />Meanwhile, the country's Cultural Heritage Administration aims to list the Gaya Tumuli as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<br />The grave mounds are crucial archaeological evidence of the Gaya Kingdom culture from one-thousand-five-hundred years ago.<br />
