코로나19 어제 106명 신규확진, 사흘째 100명대 초반…지역 91명<br /><br />We start with the latest on the coronavirus in South Korea.<br />It's the third day in a row that local infections have been below 100.<br />But a large proportion of recent cases are elderly people, leading to worries of an increase in critically ill patients and deaths.<br />Our Kim Do-yeon has the details.<br />South Korea reported 106 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.<br />Of those, 91 were local transmissions, marking the third consecutive day with only double digit local infections.<br />The capital area continued to account for the majority of new cases but it is seeing a constant downtrend.<br />Despite the positive news, the government is concerned as more elderly people are being infected with the virus.<br />Around 40 percent of new infections have been in those over 60 years old.<br />This is alarming as the virus poses more of a threat to them compared to younger generations.<br />Currently, 158 people are in critical condition and, of those, around 87 percent are over 60 years old.<br />As a result, the death rate has risen in recent days.<br />The country reported 4 more deaths on Tuesday, bringing the number of people who have died this past week to around 30.<br />This is twice as many deaths as the previous week.<br />With cluster infections emerging from meetings and facilities for the elderly, the government is pleading for their cooperation when it comes to practicing social distancing.<br />As for cluster infections, the capital area is seeing more cases through those as well.<br />The city of Bucheon saw a cluster related to door-to-door sales increase to 16 as of Tuesday, while those linked to a mountain climbing club rose to 41.<br />The nationwide caseload now stands at 22,391.<br />More than 84-percent of those people have fully recovered.<br />Kim Do-yeon, Arirang News.<br />
