Nepal landslide kills at least 11 people, dozens feared dead

At least 11 people have died, and over 20 others missing when a rain-triggered landslide struck central Nepal on Sunday (September 13). <br /><br />The massive landslide erupted from a fragile landmass in Ghumthang in Sindhupalchok, at around 3:30 am on Sunday, sweeping away 28 homes from the Bhirkharka, Nagpuje, and Dandagaun settlements into the Bhotekoshi River three kilometers below. <br /><br />The area had experienced continuous rainfall since Saturday evening. <br /><br />The Nepali Army and Armed Police Force are carrying out a search operation, and 58 families have been moved to a safer location.<br /><br />According to local media, there is a rivulet near the settlements, named Taksare Khola, which is often flooded during the rainy season. <br /><br />Locals from the Nagpuje settlement, reportedly informed their representatives of the risk of landslides but no action was taken.
