미국 국무부 차관 첫 대만 방문…'경제 협력 강화 논의'<br /><br />For the first time since the U.S. and Taiwan cut off official ties back in 1979, a senior U.S. State Department official has visited Taiwan.<br />U.S. Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Keith Krach arrived in Taiwan on Thursday and will attend the memorial service for former President Lee Teng-hui, known as Taiwan's "father of democracy", on Saturday.<br />Krach is also expected to discuss economic issues with the Taiwanese government, which is seeking a free-trade deal with the U.S.<br />Meanwhile, China said on Monday that the U.S. should stop all official exchanges with Taiwan if it wants to prevent serious damage to U.S.-China relations.<br />
