Seoul's top nuclear envoy says "better foundation" for peace on Korean peninsula has been formed

이도훈 방미후 귀국길…"종전선언 더좋은 토대 만들어졌다 생각"<br /><br />Seoul's top nuclear envoy wrapped up his trip to Washington.<br />He expressed satisfaction at the meeting held with his American counterpart, especially pertaining to North Korea related issues.<br />Han Seong-woo shares with us his remarks.<br />South Korea's top nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon told reporters on Wednesday, U.S. local time, that his talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun were productive towards actualizing peace on the Korean peninsula.<br />"Since we had very broad and meaningful discussions, I believe a better foundation that will continue to serve us well has been created."<br />The two diplomats had met in Washington earlier this week to discuss North Korea-related issues, including the regime's recent killing of a fisheries official from the South.<br />Lee's trip came shortly after South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged international efforts to declare an end to the Korean War, which he said would eventually prompt the Communist state to give up its nuclear ambitions.<br />The two Koreas technically remain at war with each other with only an armistice between them.<br />Seoul's bilateral discussions with Washington will continue during U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit planned for next week.<br />Han Seong-woo, Arirang News.<br />
