S. Korean man sentenced to 6 months in prison for lying during contact tracing

직업 숨겨 '7차 감염' 부른 인천 학원강사 징역 6개월 실형<br /><br />A South Korean man accused of lying to authorities about his job and whereabouts during a Covid-19 tracing probe has been sentenced to six months in prison.<br />The 24-year-old was accused of not disclosing that he taught at a cram school in Incheon after he tested positive for Covid-19 in May.<br />The court said that the man impeded contact tracing by lying in at least 20 instances and (quote) "inflicted huge economic and social damage and caused fear among community members."<br />Prosecutors had initially asked for a two-year sentence arguing at least 80 other Covid-19 cases were traced to this man.<br />This is the most high profile legal case yet in South Korea's aggressive efforts to track, trace, and quarantine suspected Covid cases.<br />
