교황, 새 추기경 13명 임명…르완다•브루나이서 첫 배출<br /><br />Pope Francis has made a surprise announcement, naming a group of new cardinals who will assist him and choose his eventual successor.<br />For more on this and other news from around the world, we turn to Lee Kyung-eun.<br />Kyung-eun, tell us more.<br />Mok-yeon, the pope has named 13 new cardinals.<br />This was a surprise announcement Sunday,... which came as he addressed pilgrims at the Vatican.<br />"On November 28th, on the eve of the first Sunday of Advent, I will hold a Consistory for the appointment of 13 new Cardinals."<br />Nine of the new electors are under the age of 80, and thus eligible to elect his successor.<br />They include Washington D.C. Archbishop Wilton Gregory, who would become the first African American to earn the coveted red hat.<br />There are also one each from Rwanda and Brunei the first cardinals to be elected from the countries.<br />No details were given about the concistory ceremony due travel restrictions still in place due to COVID-19.<br />Cardinals are the high church officials who rank next below the pope to assist him.<br /><br />
