Ballot Request Surge , Setting Records in US.<br />28 million ballots have been requested. <br />This is in addition to the 43 million ballots that <br />will automatically be mailed out.<br />With nearly six weeks left before the election, <br />these numbers have far exceeded the pre-Election Day<br />ballots that were cast in the 2016 election. .<br />Nearly 50 million pre-Election Day <br />ballots were sent out in 2016.<br />Close to a dozen states have expanded <br />the rules for mail-in ballots to accommodate <br />voters affected by the coronavirus pandemic.<br />Registered Democrats have requested 1.3 million <br />more ballots than registered Republicans. <br />Nearly half a million ballots have already been cast.<br />In 15 states — including Michigan, Wisconsin, <br />Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Arizona — more <br />absentee ballots have been <br />requested than the totals for 2016.<br />Close to two dozen states have already begun <br />either absentee voting or in-person voting.
