Florida Governor Moves to Allow
Citizens to Shoot 'Looters'.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis has drafted new “anti-mob”
legislation to expand the state’s Stand Your Ground law.
According to the ‘Miami Herald,’ the proposal
would allow armed citizens to shoot “looters.”.
The draft defines looting as burglary within
500 feet of a “violent or disorderly assembly.”.
The proposal also justifies
the use of force against people
engaged in “criminal mischief” that causes
“interruption or impairment” of a business. .
In addition, DeSantis’ proposal would make it a
third-degree felony to block traffic during a protest. .
Drivers who claim to unintentionally
kill or injure protestors blocking traffic
would also receive immunity. .
Denise Georges, a former Miami-Dade
County prosecutor, said the proposal would
allow vigilantes to “justify their actions.”.
It also allows for death to be the punishment
for a property crime — and that is cruel and
unusual punishment. We cannot live in a
lawless society where taking a life is done
so casually and recklessly, Denise Georges, via ‘Miami Herald’
