Many cities use 311 as a non-emergency phone line.<br />A new study has shown the calls to the number can accurately predict future opioid overdose hotspots.<br />According to UPI, the accuracy of the prediction is more than 90%.<br />The study shows that neighborhoods with high rates of opioid-related overdoses make more calls to non-emergency hotlines.<br />Most of the non-emergency reports involve code violations, abandoned vehicles, and other public nuisances.<br />311 reports of pests, unsanitary conditions, and streetlight outages predict future overdose hotspots more than 80% of the time.
