'일본해' 대신 고유번호 표기...오늘 국제수로기구서 결정<br /><br />The International Hydrographic Organization will meet on Monday to decide whether to call the East Sea by a numerical identifier,... instead of the Sea of Japan.<br />During the two-day virtual meeting, the IHO will decide whether to refer to global seas by numbers rather than using specific names.<br />Sources say a number of IHO members are in favor of the idea.<br />South and North Korea say the stretch of water should be referred to as both the 'East Sea' and the 'Sea of Japan',... but haven't been able to reach a consensus with Tokyo.<br />The two Koreas believe the name 'Sea of Japan' is a reminder of Tokyo's past imperialism, as it was officially named when the Korean Peninsula was colonized by Japan and Korea had no say in the naming.<br />
