유엔 위원회, 北 인권결의안 채택...정부도 채택 동참<br /><br />The United Nations' committee for humanitarian issues passed by consensus a resolution slamming North Korea's human rights violations.<br />And while South Korea did not co-sponsor the resolution... it did take part in reaching this year's consensus.<br />Yoon Jung-min reports.<br />The UN Third Committee, which oversees humanitarian issues, has adopted a resolution condemning North Korea's human rights violations.<br />The resolution was reached by consensus without the need for voting.<br />It has been adopted every year since 2005, and will be brought to the UN General Assembly meeting in December.<br />The resolution drafted by EU member-states expressed concerns over the grave human rights violations in the North.<br />This year, the resolution also included human rights concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<br />It also called for the resumption of reunions for families separated during the Korean War,... and urged the regime to engage in dialogue with Seoul.<br />North Korea's UN Ambassador Kim Song slammed the move,... insisting the violations stipulated in the resolution do not exist in the North.<br />However, many countries, including the U.S. endorsed the resolution,... saying a clear message must be sent.<br />Last month, the Trump administration labeled North Korea, along with China and Iran, as the most aggressive abusers of religious freedom in the world.<br />South Korea did not co-sponsor the resolution, but did endorse it, as it did last year.<br />Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday this was to align South Korea with the international efforts to substantially improve the human rights of people in North Korea.<br />Yoon Jung-min, Arirang News.<br /><br />
