Baharuddin Ramli, who was killed in the encounter near Padang Besar, Perlis in a shootout with smugglers at the Malaysia-Thailand border, will be awarded the 'Star of the Commander of Valour' posthumously.<br /><br />Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has agreed to confer the medal to the fallen police sergeant.<br /><br />Police sergeant Norihan Tari, who was injured in the encounter will also be awarded the same award.<br /><br />The two police personnel, who were corporals at the time of the shooting, have been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
