정은경 "코로나19 감염력 1.43…하루 1천명까지 발생 가능"<br /><br />Our top story this evening.<br />South Korea saw a slight drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases on Monday.<br />But these lower figures could be due to fewer people getting tested over the weekend.<br />Health authorities warn that the country could see... up to a thousand cases per day in the next couple of weeks.<br />Jang Tae-hyun reports.<br />South Korea reported 438 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.<br />Of those, 414 are local and 24 are from overseas.<br />Almost two-thirds of cases in the country are from the capital region.<br />Those cases in Seoul include cluster infections at dance academies, churches, saunas and other small gatherings.<br />One student at an academy for tax accountants in Jongno-gu District was confirmed with the virus on Monday.<br />The building has been shut, and authorities are considering whether to test all 80 students who were in the building at the same period.<br />The Kia Motors factory in Gwangju was shut during the day on Monday after four cases among Kia workers.<br />The plant resumed operation at around 4 PM after there were no additional cases.<br />Meanwhile, health authorities said the R rate, which shows the number of people infected by each person with the virus, was one-point-four-three last week.<br />"If the virus reproduction index is at one-point-four-three, it means that around seven-hundred to one-thousand cases a day can occur in about one to two weeks."<br />Outside the capital region, Busan had the highest number of cases with 52 on Monday.<br />Many of those cases were from a cluster infection at a music academy.<br />Other outbreaks across the country popped up at military bases and a kimchi-making event.<br />Jang Tae-hyun, Arirang News.<br />
