김기덕 감독, 라트비아서 코로나19로 사망…현지서 화장 후 유해 송환<br /><br />Award-winning South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk has died in Latvia.<br />Citing local news source Delfi, Russian news agency TASS reported that Kim was receiving treatment for COVID-19 at a Latvian hospital at the time of his death.<br />The Korean embassy in Riga will be assisting with the funeral process as requested by Kim's family, as it is difficult to travel between countries during the pandemic.<br />His remains will then be sent to his family.<br />Kim was internationally known for his film 'Pieta', which won the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in 2012.<br />Sources say he was planning on acquiring permanent residency in the Baltic state.<br />
