N. Korea to hold 8th Workers' Party Congress in early January: KCNA

북한, 8차 당대회 1월 초순 개최…"80일전투로 훌륭한 소집조건"<br /><br />The North Korean regime has circled early January in the calendar for its long-anticipated party congress.<br />The North's state media says officials are all set for the rare event.<br />Kim Dami has the details.<br />Chairing a politburo meeting of the ruling Workers' Party on Tuesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un decided to hold the party's congress in early January.<br />The North's state-run media reported Wednesday that the meeting was focused on confirming the agenda for the regime's eighth congress.<br />No specific dates were announced.<br />But watchers expect it to take place sometime between January 4th and the 7th, considering a large number of congress' attendees will pay tribute at the Kumsusan Palace at the start of the new year.<br />On top of that, January 8th is Kim Jong-un's birthday.<br />The event will be the first of its kind in four years.<br />It's expected to cover a range of matters... including a five-year economic development plan and new policy lines toward Seoul and Washington amid frozen denuclearization talks.<br />There may possibly be a message for the incoming Biden administration.<br />Tuesday's meeting also reviewed the achievements and progress made during the regime's so-called '80-day campaign'.<br />In October, Kim launched the two month-long project to achieve national and economic goals ahead of the January congress.<br />The regime's state media said innovative achievements in all fields have laid a great foundation for the upcoming event.<br />Kim Dami, Arirang News.<br />
